I was there for just over two hours. It was not crowded at all, but the manuscripts and articles from various ruling dynasties were fascinating to my wife and I.We relaxed and got drinks from the cafe at the second floor central courtyard opposite Sultan Ahmad Mosque. Let me put it this way, if you are really interested in objects of the early rulers of Turkey and other parts of the region and read Arabic or Ottoman, you will spend 2-3 hours. I visited the museum before and after the renovation; I think they did an excellent job. I hope that helps. Enjoy the Istanbul Atmosphere, and remember, It was the the greatest city is the world for a long time. You will never be able to cover everything. I have been there four time, each for 1-3 weeks, and still have many yet to see ;)

Nb Istanbul and Turkish public sector museums seem to have a policy of stocking very good quality souvenirs and books in their shops, sometimes exclusive to the museums. Worth a look.
Q:
I have some question, what time does the museum open and close at? And, does it open in July 17?
