A Canadian is among women who say they were sexually abused by the late former Harrods owner Mohamed Al-Fayed while serving as employees at the luxury department store in London, England, CBC News has learned.

Twenty women accused Fayed of sexual assault, five of whom said he raped them while they worked at Harrods, the high-end London store he owned. He died in 2023.

Five women said Al Fayed, who died in 2023 at age 94, had raped them, while others detailed alarming accounts of sexual assault and harassment while they were working at Harrods.

The high-end London department store, Harrods, said Thursday that it is “utterly appalled” by allegations of abuse – including rape – perpetrated by its former owner, the late billionaire Mohamed Al Fayed.
