New Orleans' latest murder-free streak comes as cities across the United States have seen a steep decline in violent crime in 2024. Data analyst Jeff Asher, who tracks data on crime, said there has been a 40% decline in murders in New Orleans so far this year, over double the reduction that many U.S. cities are experiencing.

This homicide investigation ends a 19-day streak of no killings across the city of New Orleans. The last reported New Orleans murder happened Sept. 1, when police say Chante Mark shot Raven Francis in the head while she and some friends drove away from a fight at the Shamrock Bar and Grill in Mid City.

According to the Metropolitan Crime Commission, New Orleans’ murder rate has plummeted to levels not seen in years.
