The New Orleans Saints will start Spencer Rattler, not Derek Carr, in Week 18's regular season finale against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers due to the quarterback's injury, interim head coach Darren Rizzi announced Friday.

It looked unlikely throughout the week, but the Saints have laid the hammer on Derek Carr's status for Sunday's season finale against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Carr has been officially ruled out of the game after unsuccessfully attempting to inject his hand,

Carr will miss his fourth straight game after suffering a fracture to his non-throwing hand in a Dec. 8 win over the New York Giants. Though Saints interim coach pushed back against reporting that described Carr's return as unlikely, the quarterback ultimately wasn't able to heal enough in order to play.

Derek Carr has been ruled out for the Saints' final game due to the broken hand he suffered in December. Interim coach Darren Rizzi had left the door open for Carr to return this year.
