Victims' families and a survivor of a Maryland bridge collapse that killed six people filed claims Friday for wrongful death and punitive damages against the owner and the operator of the massive cargo ship that crashed into the bridge earlier this year.

The U.S. Justice Department has filed a civil claim in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland against Grace Ocean Private Ltd and Synergy Marine Private Ltd, the Singaporean companies that owned and operated the Motor Vessel DALI,

The families of the six killed when the Dali struck and collapsed the bridge, as well the two aboard the span who survived, asked a judge not to cap damages.

The Dali, a container ship responsible for the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, has left Hampton Roads after several weeks of repair work.
