San Diego will honor its military veterans on Monday with the traditional parade along the embarcadero downtown.

Veterans Day is Nov. 11 and every year the nation comes together to honor and celebrate those who have served their country in the armed forces. In San Diego, Veterans Day holds special meaning seeing as the region is home to a large number of active-duty military personnel.

Offices and services in both the city and the county of San Diego will close on Monday in observance of the Veterans Day holiday. Here’s a look at what will be closed and open around the region for this holiday: Parking meters,

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Veterans Day Parade has been around for more than three decades. Its a day when the community unites to pay their respects to those who have served in the military. “I mean they truly are American heroes, they are the patriots that have really guaranteed our freedoms,” San Diego Veterans Day Parade Chair David Koontz said.

On Monday, which was Veterans Day, Gov. Gavin Newsom pardoned five veterans whom his office said were convicted of robbery and drug charges decades ago. Two of those veterans have San Diego connections.
